Growing movement of London councils reject Home Office raids

Immigration raids are the Home Office’s tactic to cause fear in migrant communities around in Britain, and a key tool of the racist ‘hostile environment’.

Immigration Enforcement officers, operating under the Home Office, target dozens of homes and businesses every day around Britain and northern Ireland. In London, the vast majority of immigration raids target people’s homes, and are conducted without a warrant.

These racist raids persecute migrants, tear apart our communities and seek to spread fear and division.

But local people and local representatives are rejecting this government’s racism and violence, and standing up in solidarity with each other to resist these raids collectively.

With support from the Migrant Champions Network, councillors in Lewisham attempted to pass a motion in January 2026 rejecting all support for Home Office raids. In July 2026, Lewisham council then formally banned co-operation with the Home Office on immigration raids. See the ITV News coverage below:

Thank you to Lewisham, Lambeth, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Southwark and Haringey councils, and the councillors, council leaders and Mayors who have also committed to rejecting Home Office raids and refusing to provide any council resources to support them.
