Scores of councillors and candidates pledge to speak out for all residents
Our politics - both national and local - are increasingly toxic and divisive.
Too often, politicians seek to win votes by scapegoating people who move, and pitting communities against each other.
Local politicians across the country can and do take a stand against this. They know that our communities are stronger than far-right toxicity, and that the issues we face, we face together.
In the run-up to the local elections of May 2025, over 100 local councillors and candidates signed the Migrant Champions Network pledge, committing to speak up for all residents, regardless of immigration status, and stand up against far right toxicity. The full pledge reads:
A total of 112 councillors and candidates from all across the country signed the pledge. Check out the signatories on this map.
There is no denying that we face huge challenges in the fight for justice and dignity for all. Attacks on our migrant neighbours can feel unrelenting, with mainstream political parties battling it out to come up with ever crueller anti-migrant policies - and distract people from the real issues facing our communities.
All politicians have a responsibility to do better. Local representatives. Up and down the country, local politicians are speaking up, pledging to do away with the divisive anti-migrant rhetoric that has marred our politics, and speak up for all residents.
If you want to be part of the fight, please join us. We won’t stop resisting until we win - and we need you with us.
