Local politics, migrant justice and the transnational far right: Perspectives from the UK and Europe
Date: Thursday 8 May
Time: 17:30 - 19:00 BST / 18:30 - 20:00 CEST
Across Europe and beyond, anti-migrant policies are dividing our communities and causing untold harm. All too often, a cruel new policy adopted in one place will be echoed in many others, as politicians copy each other’s homework in an attempt to shore up their power.
Similarly, the far right is on the rise across Europe, gaining power at the ballot box and traction in our communities. Far right parties and activists share tactics, rhetoric and even funding in what is now a truly transnational movement.
With anti-migrant and far right politicians working in tandem across borders, resistance will depend on cross-border solidarity and knowledge-sharing. Progressive local politicians across Europe are facing similar threats - but by coming together, we can build stronger networks of resistance.
So join our amazing panel of speakers on 8 May to hear about how progressive politicians in different parts of the UK and Europe are working to resist anti-migrant policies and combat the far right.
